I only do it because it’s a way to build up endurance to do other things well that I enjoy. My attitude towards it is always like Anne Perkins in Parks and Rec where she says ‘I know running keeps you healthy, but god, at what cost?’
Still, I’d like to be able to run at least a 5-10k at some point if for no other reason than lack of personal shame. But I never get past the initial hump of being able to run about 3 quarters of a mile before wanting to lop my feet off. Turns out, you can run incorrectly. Apparently, you’re supposed to land on your mid/forefoot, and not your heels.
Apparently, modern shoes are really bad about causing you to do that. So last Friday, I bought a pair of Nike Free Runs that, apparently through some bit of magic, cause your foot to strike the way it’s meant to, and make your stride more efficient. Maybe marketing just works well on me, but holy damn they work well. I was able to run so much easier today and I feel like I made real progress in actually progressing towards a 5k.
The shoes are like $100 normally, but if you’re like me and don’t care about fashion, you can find them in the colors nobody else wanted for like half price. I got mine for like $50 because they’re an ugly grey/teal green color.
Sorry for wasting your time with this post about footwear.
